Abdullah bin Ummi Maktum, the Muezzin of the Prophet

Most people only know that the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam has only one muezzin, Bilal bin Rabah the radhiallahu' anhu. Though it is just Bilal the muezzin of the Prophet, there is another name that Abdullah bin Ummi Maktum radhiallahu 'anhu. When we handed the name of Abdullah bin Ummi Maktum, some people may feel strange, even among those who just heard a friend named Abdullah bin Ummi Maktum.

Both Prophet's muezzin, Bilal bin Rabah and Abdullah bin Ummi Maktum radhiallahu 'anhuma, have a special time for azan. Abdullah bin Ummi Maktum is one of the senior companions of the Prophet, he was among the as-sabiquna-l awwalun (those who first embraced Islam). Some say his name was Omar, there is also a mention Amr, then the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam replace it with the name Abdullah.

Medina People know him by the name of Abdullah, while the Iraqi people call Amr. But both agreed that Ibn Qays bin nasabnya is the waiting bin al-Za-Usham. قال الله تبارك وتعالى: إذا ما أخذت كريمة عبدي لم أجد له بها جزاء إلا الجنة

"Tabaraka Allah Almighty says, 'If I take my servant vision, then there is no more appropriate response except heaven."

When Allah commanded His Messenger and the Muslims to migrate to Medina, Abdullah bin Ummi Maktum be the person who first respond to the call of Allah and His Messenger are. Although he had physical deficiencies, the distance between Mecca and Medina are far, around 490 km, the threat of the Quraysh, not to mention the dangers of the way, all that does not prevent him from fulfilling the command of Allah and His Messenger.

The story is as follows:

While he talks earnestly, suddenly came Abdullah bin Ummi Maktum 'disturbing''m read to him passages from the Koran.

Abdullah said, "O Messenger of Allah, teach me the verses that have been taught of God to you."

Finished speaking with them, the Prophet intends going home. But suddenly his dark vision and his head ached like getting hit. Then God revealed his word to him,

عبس وتولى [1] أن جاءه الأعمى [2] وما يدريك لعله يزكى [3] أو يذكر فتنفعه الذكرى [4] أما من استغنى [5] فأنت له تصدى [6] وما عليك ألا يزكى [7] وأما من جاءك يسعى [8 ] وهو يخشى [9] فأنت عنه تلهى [10] كلا إنها تذكرة [11] فمن شاء ذكره [12] في صحف مكرمة [13] مرفوعة مطهرة [14] بأيدي سفرة [15] كرام بررة [16]

"He (Muhammad) frowned and turned away, because a blind dating him, you know, perhaps he might grow (from sin), or he (want) to get instruction, and the teaching might profit him? As for those who feel themselves as self-sufficient, then you serve it. Though there is no (censure) on you if they do not clean themselves (faith). As for the people who come to you with a rush (to get teaching), while he fears (Allah), then you ignore it. At all times do not (so)! Indeed, it is a warning of Allah's teachings. So who wants yanag surely he noticed. (Teachings doctrine) contained in the books that glorified, exalted again purified, in the hands of the noble messengers again (ever) worship. "(QS. 80: 1-16).

Sixteen delivered verses that Gabriel Al-Amin into the heart of the Prophet in connection with the events of Abdullah bin Ummi Maktum, which is always read from the lowered until now, and will continue to be read until doomsday.

Martyrdom of the Muezzin

In the year 14 AH, Commander of the Faithful Umar bin Khattab held a confrontation with the Persian Empire. He radhiallahu 'anhu wrote a letter to the governor saying, "Do not nobody miss from people who have guns, people who have a horse, or a dare, or a sharp-minded, but faced it all to me as soon as possible!" Then Muslims gathered together, joined in a large army led by the noble companions, Saad bin Abi Waqqas. Among these forces are Abdullah bin Ummi Maktum.

Abdullah bin Ummi Maktum enter into force Qadisiyah War by wearing his armor, look dashing, and Islam in charge of holding the banner flag. Do not make it tremble at the sound of the roaring battlefield, clinking's sword, or arrows shot rustling. For him the Commander of the Faithful has opened an opportunity for everyone in this jihad, he did not want to miss the chance of jihad in Allah's way, even though the danger as a double blind more.

Great war was raging, up comes the third day, the new Muslims defeated the Persian army superpower. The victory became the biggest victory in the history of Islamic warfare until then. But the victory must be paid with the death of the martyrs, the heroes of Islam, among them is a friend and the muezzin of the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam Abdullah bin Ummi Maktum radhiallahu' anhu. His body was found lying on the battlefield, hugging flag mandated to be maintained.

Finally, the muezzin returned to Rahmatullah, died as a hero fighting the Persian Zoroastrian nation. May Allah Ta'ala accept deeds-deeds Abdullah bin Ummi Maktum and we enter into heaven and his God.
